Founder of Teach Haiti | Speaker | Advocate for Education and Empowerment
Miquette McMahon is a Haitian-born speaker, nonprofit leader, and the founder of Teach Haiti, an organization that provides high-quality, holistic education to children in Haiti. She has been married to her supportive husband, Art, since 2011 and is a proud mother of three beautiful children. Her life is a testimony of resilience, purpose, and the power of education to transform lives.
My Journey — Humble Beginnings
Miquette was born in St. Michel de l’Attalaye, a rural town in central Haiti, where access to education was limited and poverty shaped everyday life. Despite the hardships, she always dreamed of a different future. As a teenager, she moved to Port-au-Prince in search of better educational opportunities—but even there, school was often out of reach due to cost and instability.
A Life-Changing Opportunity
At age 19, Miquette met the Lee family, who saw her potential and believed in her future. They helped forge a path for her to become a Rotary Youth Exchange student, making it possible for her to move to Minnesota and complete the last two years of high school. Through their support and the encouragement of the Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club, her life took a dramatic new direction—from the mountains of Haiti to the classrooms of middle America. It was a shift she embraced wholeheartedly, knowing it was the start of something much greater.
A New Vision at Concordia College
She continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing. During those formative years, Miquette found her voice, her purpose deepened, and a vision for something greater began to take shape—a desire to give back by making education accessible for students back home.
Founding Teach Haiti
In 2007, Miquette founded Teach Haiti with a simple but powerful goal: to provide students with the opportunity to dream, grow, and lead through education. Today, Teach Haiti serves over 650 students across Port-au-Prince and St. Michel, offering a holistic academic model that includes art, music, physical education, daily meals, and scholarships for trade school graduates.
Anchored in Purpose
Miquette lives by the promise of Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord...” She believes every child deserves a chance to thrive—and her life’s work is devoted to making that a reality.
Beyond the Mission
Outside of her work, Miquette finds her greatest joy in her family. She is a proud mom to three beautiful children and wife to her supportive husband Art. Together, they live a life grounded in purpose, gratitude, and love.
